Jonah too was one of the Envoys; 139 He fled to the overloaded ship. 140 and cast lots, and he was among the losers (of the lots that were cast). 141 The fish then swallowed him and he blamed himself. (For not waiting for Allah’s command.) 142 Had it not been that he (repented and) glorified Allah, 143 He would have stayed in its belly till the day the dead are raised. 144 ۞ We cast him out of the fish unto dry land and he was sick. 145 and We caused to grow over him a tree of gourds. 146 And We sent him to a hundred thousand (people) or even more. 147 And they believed; so We permitted them to enjoy (their life) for a while. 148 Then ask them whether your Lord has daughters and they have sons. 149 Or that have We created the angels as females, while they were present? 150 It is only because of their false invention that they say, 151 "Allah has begotten children"? but they are liars! 152 Has He chosen daughters in preference to sons? 153 What is the matter with you, how is it that you judge? 154 Will you not then reflect? 155 Or have ye an authority manifest? 156 Bring your book if what you say is true. 157 And they have made between Him and the jinn a kinship whereas the jinn assuredly know that they are to be brought up 158 Exaltations to Allah above what they describe, 159 Save single-minded slaves of Allah. 160 neither you nor what you worship 161 cannot mislead anyone 162 Save him Who is to roast in the Flaming Fire. 163 There is not one of us but hath his known position. 164 "And we are verily ranged in ranks (for service); 165 And verily we! we hallow. 166 And indeed they (Arab pagans) used to say; 167 'If only we had had a Reminder from the ancients, 168 "We should certainly have been Servants of Allah, sincere (and devoted)!" 169 They have rejected the Quran. They will soon know the consequences (of their disbelief). 170 Our word had already been given before to Our votaries, the apostles, -- 171 [That] indeed, they would be those given victory 172 And that Our host, they verily would be the victors. 173 So, [O Muhammad], leave them for a time. 174 And watch them, for they will soon see. 175 Do they seek to hasten on Our Torment? 176 But when it descends in their territory, then evil is the morning of those who were warned. 177 Withdraw from them awhile 178 And watch and they shall see (the torment)! 179 Your Lord, the Lord of Honor, is too exalted to be considered as they describe Him. 180 And peace upon the messengers. 181 And praise be to Allah, Lord of the Worlds! 182
