Verily Jonah is one of the apostles. 139 When he fled unto the laden ship, 140 And he drew lots and was among the losers. 141 then the whale swallowed him down, and he blameworthy. 142 and had he not been among those who exalt (Allah), 143 He would have indeed remained inside its belly (the fish) till the Day of Resurrection. 144 ۞ But We threw him onto the open shore while he was ill. 145 And We caused to grow over him a gourd vine. 146 And [then] We sent him [once again] to [his people,] a hundred thousand [souls] or more: 147 And they believed; so We gave them enjoyment for a while. 148 So inquire of them, [O Muhammad], "Does your Lord have daughters while they have sons? 149 Or created We the angels females while they were present? 150 Now surely it is of their own lie that they say: 151 'God has begotten?' They are truly liars. 152 Has He chosen daughters over sons? 153 What is the matter with you? How do you form your judgement? 154 Will you then not take heed? 155 Or, do you have a clear authority? 156 Then produce your scriptures, if you are telling the truth. 157 They assert kinship between Him and the angels. But the angels know that they (the liars) will be arraigned (in Hell). 158 (They say): “Exalted be Allah above what they attribute to Him, 159 Not thus, however, [behave] God's true servants: 160 So you and your deities 161 shall not be able to tempt anyone away from Allah 162 except him who shall roast in Hell. 163 (Those ranged in ranks say): "Not one of us but has a place appointed; 164 And verily we! we are ranged in ranks. 165 "And we are verily those who declare (Allah's) glory!" 166 And they surely were wont to say: 167 "Had we received guidance from the people living before us, 168 we would have been sincere worshipers of Allah' 169 Yet (now that it is come) they disbelieve therein; but they will come to know. 170 And Our word has already preceded for Our servants, the messengers, 171 assuredly they shall be helped, 172 And [that] indeed, Our soldiers will be those who overcome. 173 So turn thou aside from them for a season. 174 Watch them: they will soon see. 175 Do they want to hasten Our punishment? 176 When it descends on their courtyards, how terrible that morning will be for those who were warned! 177 And turn away from them for some time. 178 And (then) see, for they too shall see. 179 Glory be to thy Lord, the Lord of Glory, above that they describe! 180 And peace be upon all His message-bearers! 181 and praise belongs to God, the Lord of all Being. 182
God the Almighty always says the truth.
End of Surah: The Arrangers (Al-Saaffaat). Sent down in Mecca after Animals (Al-An 'aam) before Luqmaan (Luqmaan)
