And, verily, Yunus (Jonah) was one of the Messengers. 139 when he ran away to the laden ship 140 And then they cast lots, and he was the one who lost; 141 then the whale swallowed him down, and he blameworthy. 142 And had he not been of those who [even in the deep darkness of their distress are able to] extol God's limitless glory, 143 He would have remained inside its belly until the Day they are resurrected. 144 ۞ But We cast him forth on the naked shore while he was sick, 145 and caused a gourd tree to grow over him, 146 And We sent him towards a hundred thousand people, in fact more. 147 And they believed; so We permitted them to enjoy (their life) for a while. 148 So ask them for a pronouncement -- Has thy Lord daughters, and they sons? 149 Did We create the angels females, to which they were witnesses? 150 Then is it of their lying that they say: 151 "Allah has begotten off spring or children (i.e. angels are the daughters of Allah)?" And, verily, they are liars! 152 Did He choose daughters rather than sons? 153 What is amiss with you and your judgment? 154 Will you not then mind? 155 “Or do you have some clear proof?” 156 Then produce your scriptures, if you are telling the truth. 157 And they have appointed a relationship between Him and the jinns; and indeed the jinns surely know that they will be brought forth. 158 Glory to Allah! (He is free) from the things they ascribe (to Him)! 159 but not so the true servants of God, 160 for, verily, neither you [blasphemers] nor the objects of your worship 161 You cannot make anyone rebel against Him. 162 Except those who are predestined to burn in Hell! 163 There is not one of us but hath his known position. 164 we are those who stand ranged in ranks. 165 "And we are verily those who declare (Allah's) glory!" 166 What, would they then say: 167 "If only we had a tradition [to this effect] from our forebears, 168 we would certainly be true servants of God." 169 But (now that the Qur'an has come), they reject it: But soon will they know! 170 Already has Our Word been passed before (this) to our Servants sent (by Us), 171 that it is certainly they who will be helped; 172 and that it is Our host that would certainly triumph. 173 Hence, turn thou aside for a while from those [who deny the truth,] 174 Watch them: they will soon see. 175 Do they seek to hasten Our chastisement? 176 When it lights in their courtyard, how evil will be the morning of them that are warned! 177 And turn away from them for some time. 178 And (then) see, for they too shall see. 179 Glorified be your Lord, the Lord of Honour and Power! (He is free) from what they attribute unto Him! 180 Peace be with the Messengers (of God). 181 and praise be to God, the Lord of all the Worlds. 182
