Jonah too was one of the Envoys; 139 [Mention] when he ran away to the laden ship. 140 and cast lots, and was of the rebutted, 141 And the fish swallowed him while he was blameworthy; 142 Had it not been that he (repented and) glorified Allah, 143 He would have indeed remained inside its belly (the fish) till the Day of Resurrection. 144 ۞ but We cast him upon the wilderness, and he was sick, 145 and We caused a pumpkin tree to grow over him. 146 And We sent him to a hundred thousand, rather they exceeded. 147 They believed in him so We granted them enjoyment for an appointed time. 148 (Muhammad), ask them, "Do daughters belong to your Lord and sons to them? 149 or is it that We have created the angels female, and they [who believe them to be divine] have witnessed [that act of creation]? 150 Now surely it is of their own lie that they say: 151 Allah hath begotten. Allah! verily they tell a lie. 152 Has He (then) chosen daughters rather than sons? 153 What aileth you? How judge ye? 154 Will you not then remember? 155 Or have you, perchance, a clear evidence [for your assertions]? 156 Then bring ye your Book (of authority) if ye be truthful! 157 And some people have invented a kinship between Him and all manner of invisible forces although [even] these invisible forces know well that, verily, they [who thus blaspheme against God] shall indeed be arraigned [before Him on Judgment Day: for] 158 God is too glorious to be described as they describe Him 159 Except the slaves of Allah, whom He choses (for His Mercy i.e. true believers of Islamic Monotheism who do not attribute false things unto Allah). 160 neither you nor what you worship 161 Not against Him can you cause (any) to fall into trial, 162 Except he who is to [enter and] burn in the Hellfire. 163 As for us, there is none but has an appointed station. 164 "And we are truly those who stand in rows, 165 and we are of those who glorify Allah.” 166 What, would they then say: 167 "If we had a reminder as had the men of old (before the coming of Prophet Muhammad SAW as a Messenger of Allah). 168 We would have been the chosen servants of Allah." 169 But (now that the Qur'an has come), they reject it: But soon will they know! 170 And certainly Our word has already gone forth in respect of Our servants, the apostles: 171 That they verily would be helped, 172 and that Our hosts shall triumph. 173 So turn (away) from them for a while. 174 And watch them (how they fare), and they soon shall see (how thou farest)! 175 Do they wish (indeed) to hurry on our Punishment? 176 When it comes down on their plains, it will be an evil dawn for those who had been warned. 177 Leave them alone for a while, 178 and watch. They, too, will watch. 179 Hallowed be thine Lord, the Lord of Majesty, from that which they ascribe! 180 And peace be on the Messengers! 181 and all praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Universe. 182
