Jonah, too, was one of the Messengers. 139 He fled to the overloaded ship. 140 And then they cast lots and he was the one who lost, 141 Then a fish swallowed him, and he was blameworthy. 142 And had he not been one of those who glorify (Allah) 143 he would certainly have remained inside the fish till the Day of Resurrection. 144 ۞ We cast him out of the fish unto dry land and he was sick. 145 And We caused to grow over him a tree, a gourd. 146 And We sent him to [his people of] a hundred thousand or more. 147 and they believed in him: so We let them live in ease for a while. 148 Now ask thou them: are there for thy Lord daughters and for them sons? 149 or is it that We have created the angels female, and they [who believe them to be divine] have witnessed [that act of creation]? 150 Lo! verily it is of their falsehood that they say: 151 'Allah has begotten' They are truly liars. 152 Hath He chosen daughters above sons? 153 Woe to you! How terrible is your Judgment. 154 Will you not then remember? 155 Or have you received some clear authority? 156 Then produce your scripture, if you should be truthful. 157 They link Him with jinns by lineage, yet the jinns know they will be brought before Him. 158 God is too glorious to be described as they describe Him 159 except the servants of God, sincere and devoted. 160 So surely you and what you worship, 161 You cannot tempt [anyone] away from Him 162 except him who shall roast in the Blazing Fire. 163 The angels say, "Each of us has an appointed place. 164 Verily, we (angels), we stand in rows for the prayers (as you Muslims stand in rows for your prayers); 165 "And we are verily those who declare (Allah's) glory!" 166 They used to say before: 167 "Had we received guidance from the people living before us, 168 We would certainly have been the servants of Allah-- the purified ones. 169 They have rejected the Quran. They will soon know the consequences (of their disbelief). 170 And indeed Our Word has already gone forth for Our bondmen who were sent. 171 [That] indeed, they would be those given victory 172 And that Our host, they verily would be the victors. 173 So turn (away) from them for a while. 174 And see them thou; they themselves shall presently see. 175 What, do they seek to hasten Our punishment? 176 So when it does descend in their courtyards – so what an evil morning it will be for those who were warned! 177 So turn (away) from them for a while, 178 And see thou: they themselves shall presently see. 179 LIMITLESS in His glory is thy Sustainer, the Lord of almightiness, [exalted] above anything that men may devise by way of definition! 180 And peace be upon all His message-bearers! 181 And all praise is to Allah, the Lord Of The Creation. 182
