Jonah, too, was one of the Messengers. 139 When he ran to the laden ship, 140 Then he joined the lots, and was of the condemned. 141 So the whale swallowed him, for he was blameworthy, 142 And were he not one of those who praise. – 143 he would certainly have remained inside the fish till the Day of Resurrection. 144 ۞ But We cast him forth on the naked shore in a state of sickness, 145 and caused a gourd tree to grow over him, 146 and We sent him forth to a nation of a hundred thousand or more, 147 and they believed; so We gave them enjoyment for a while. 148 Now ask thou them: are there for thy Lord daughters and for them sons? 149 Have We created the angels as females before their very eyes? 150 Pay heed! It is their slander that they say. – 151 "God has begotten (children)?" They are liars indeed! 152 “Has he chosen daughters instead of sons?” 153 What is the matter with you? How judge ye? 154 Will you not then mind? 155 Or have you, perchance, a clear evidence [for your assertions]? 156 Bring your Book, if you are truthful. 157 They claim that He has kinship with the jinn, yet the jinn themselves know that they will be produced before Him [for judgement]. 158 Exaltations to Allah above what they describe, 159 except for God's sincere servants. 160 So indeed, you [disbelievers] and whatever you worship, 161 Can tempt anyone to rebel against Him. 162 Save him Who is to roast in the Flaming Fire. 163 [All forces of nature praise God and say:] "Among us, too, there is none but has a place assigned to it [by Him]; 164 Lo! we, even we are they who set the ranks, 165 And indeed, we are those who exalt Allah." 166 What though they would say, 167 "Had we received guidance from the people living before us, 168 "We should certainly have been Servants of Allah, sincere (and devoted)!" 169 But they disbelieved in it, so they are going to know. 170 And certainly Our word has already gone forth in respect of Our servants, the apostles: 171 assuredly they shall be helped, 172 And [that] indeed, Our soldiers will be those who overcome. 173 So turn away (O Muhammad SAW) from them for a while, 174 And see [what will befall] them, for they are going to see. 175 So are they being impatient for Our punishment? 176 But when it descends into the open space before them, evil will be the morning for those who were warned (and heeded not)! 177 So turn (away) from them for a while, 178 And watch (how they fare) and they soon shall see (how thou farest)! 179 Your Lord, the Lord of Honor, is too exalted to be considered as they describe Him. 180 Peace be with the Messengers (of God). 181 It is only God, the Lord of the Universe, who deserves all praise. 182
