Jonah was certainly a Messenger. 139 When he ran to the laden ship, 140 and sailed away in a laden ship, wherein people cast lots. Because he lost, he was thrown into the water. 141 Then the fish swallowed him, while he was blameworthy. 142 And had he not been of those who [even in the deep darkness of their distress are able to] extol God's limitless glory, 143 He would have stayed in its belly till the day the dead are raised. 144 ۞ But We threw him onto the open shore while he was ill. 145 And We caused to grow over him a gourd vine. 146 And We sent him to a hundred thousand, rather they exceeded. 147 and they believed, and We gave them enjoyment for awhile. 148 Now ask them their opinion: Is it that thy Lord has (only) daughters, and they have sons?- 149 Or did We create the angels females, while they were witnesses? 150 Then is it of their lying that they say: 151 "God has begotten (children)?" They are liars indeed! 152 Did He choose daughters rather than sons? 153 What is the matter with you? How do you decide? 154 What, will you not remember? 155 Or have ye a clear warrant? 156 Bring your Book, if you speak truly! 157 They link Him with jinns by lineage, yet the jinns know they will be brought before Him. 158 limitless is God in His glory, above anything that men may devise by way of definition! 159 all of them except the chosen servants of Allah. 160 So surely you and what you worship, 161 Can mislead anyone away from Him, 162 Save him who is to burn in hell. 163 Of us there is none but hath a station assigned. 164 We stand in ranks (for prayer) 165 Verily, we (angels), we are they who glorify (Allah's Praises i.e. perform prayers). 166 And indeed the disbelievers used to say, – 167 "Had we received guidance from the people living before us, 168 Surely we would have been the bondmen of God sincere. 169 Yet they disbelieve therein. Presently they shall come to know. 170 Our word had already been given before to Our votaries, the apostles, -- 171 That they verily would be helped, 172 And that Our host, they verily would be the victors. 173 So withdraw from them (O Muhammad) awhile, 174 And wait; they will come to know soon. 175 What, do they seek to hasten Our punishment? 176 So when it does descend in their courtyards – so what an evil morning it will be for those who were warned! 177 So turn away from them for a time 178 And watch, for they will (soon) see. 179 Exalted be your Lord, the Lord of Glory, above what they attribute to Him, 180 And peace be on the apostles. 181 And all the praise and thanks be to Allah, Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists). 182
