AND, BEHOLD, Jonah was indeed one of Our message-bearers 139 When he left towards the laden ship. 140 Then lots were drawn and he became of those who were pushed into the sea. 141 [and they cast him into the sea,] whereupon the great fish swallowed him, for he had been blameworthy. 142 Had he not been one of those who struggled hard, 143 He would have remained inside its belly until the Day they are resurrected. 144 ۞ But We threw him on a wide bare tract of land while he was ill; 145 And We grew a tree of gourd (as a shelter) above him. 146 And [then] We sent him [once again] to [his people,] a hundred thousand [souls] or more: 147 So they accepted faith – We therefore gave them usage for a while. 148 Now ask them if their Lord has daughters, and they sons? 149 Or, did We create the angels females while they were witnessing? 150 Verily, it is of their falsehood that they (Quraish pagans) say: 151 Allah has begotten; and most surely they are liars. 152 Has He chosen daughters over sons? 153 “What is the matter with you? What sort of a judgement you impose!” 154 What, will you not remember? 155 Do you have any clear authority for such claims? 156 Then bring your scripture, if what you say is true. 157 And they have made between Him and the jinn a kinship whereas the jinn assuredly know that they are to be brought up 158 limitless is God in His glory, above anything that men may devise by way of definition! 159 Except the chosen bondmen of Allah. 160 You and whatever you worship 161 Ye cannot excite (anyone) against Him. 162 Except those who are predestined to burn in Hell! 163 There is not one of us but hath his known position. 164 we are those who stand ranged in ranks. 165 we are they that give glory. 166 And indeed, the disbelievers used to say, 167 "If only we had a tradition [to this effect] from our forebears, 168 we would surely have been God's chosen servants," 169 But (now that the Quran has come) they disbelieve therein (i.e. in the Quran and in Prophet Muhammad SAW, and all that which he brought, the Divine Revelation), so they will come to know! 170 Already has Our Word been passed before (this) to our Servants sent (by Us), 171 will certainly be victorious 172 and that it is Our host that would certainly triumph. 173 So turn thou away from them for a little while, 174 And watch them and they shall see (the punishment)! 175 What, do they seek to hasten Our punishment? 176 Then, when it descends into their courtyard (i.e. near to them), evil will be the morning for those who had been warned! 177 And turn away from them till a time 178 And watch, for they will soon see. 179 Glorified be thy Lord, the Lord of Majesty, from that which they attribute (unto Him) 180 Peace be with the Messengers (of God). 181 And praise to Allah, Lord of the worlds. 182
