Jonah was certainly a Messenger. 139 Call to mind when he fled to the laden ship, 140 and cast lots, and was of the rebutted, 141 So the whale swallowed him, for he was blameworthy, 142 And were he not one of those who praise. – 143 He would have remained in its belly till the day when all will be raised. 144 ۞ but We caused him to be cast forth on a desert shore, sick [at heart] as he was, 145 And We made a gourd tree grow over him. 146 And We sent him to a hundred thousand, rather they exceeded. 147 And they believed; so We gave them enjoyment for a while. 148 (Muhammad), ask them, "Do daughters belong to your Lord and sons to them? 149 Or did We create the angels females while they were witnesses? 150 Behold, it is one of their fabrications that they say: 151 “Allah has begotten.” They are liars! 152 Does He prefer sons to daughters? 153 What is the matter with you? How do you form your judgement? 154 Will you then not take heed? 155 Do you have any clear authority for such claims? 156 “Then bring forth your Book, if you are truthful!” 157 And they have invented a blood-relationship between Him and the Jinns: but the Jinns know (quite well) that they have indeed to appear (before his Judgment-Seat)! 158 Glory be to Allah (for freedom) from what they describe; 159 Save single-minded slaves of Allah. 160 Lo! verily, ye and that which ye worship, 161 Can lead (any) into temptation concerning Allah, 162 except those who will burn in Hell. 163 None of us is there, but has a known station; 164 we are the rangers, 165 we are they that give glory. 166 And indeed they used to say: 167 "If we had a message from [those of] the former peoples, 168 We would have been the chosen creatures of God." 169 But they disbelieved in it; soon they shall know! 170 We have already given Our promise to Our Messengers 171 That they verily would be helped, 172 and that Our army will be triumphant. 173 (Muhammad), stay away from them for a while 174 And watch them and they shall see (the punishment)! 175 So are they being impatient for Our punishment? 176 But when it cometh home to them, then it will be a hapless morn for those who have been warned. 177 So turn thou from them for a while, 178 and see; soon they shall see! 179 Glory be to your Lord, the Lord of Honor, above what they describe. 180 And peace be on the apostles. 181 And praise to Allah, Lord of the worlds. 182
