And lo! Jonah verily was of those sent (to warn) 139 He fled to the overloaded ship. 140 Then lots were drawn and he became of those who were pushed into the sea. 141 So the whale swallowed him, for he was blameworthy, 142 Had he not glorified God, 143 He would have remained inside its belly until the Day they are resurrected. 144 ۞ Then We cast him on a desert shore while he was sick; 145 and We caused a gourd tree to grow over him. 146 We sent him as a messenger to a hundred thousand people or more, 147 And they believed, so We gave them enjoyment [of life] for a time. 148 Now ask them their opinion: Is it that thy Lord has (only) daughters, and they have sons?- 149 Or did We make the angels females, and they witnessed it? 150 Lo! it is of their falsehood that they say: 151 'God has begotten?' They are truly liars. 152 Has He chosen daughters in preference to sons? 153 What ails you then, how you judge? 154 Will you then not take heed? 155 Do you have clear authority? 156 Then bring your Book if you are truthful! 157 They have set up a kinship between Him and the jinn; and the jinn know that they shall be arraigned. 158 (They say): “Exalted be Allah above what they attribute to Him, 159 Except the chosen bondmen of Allah. 160 You and whatever you worship 161 You cannot make anyone rebel against Him. 162 unless it be such as rushes towards the blazing fire [of his own accord]! 163 [All forces of nature praise God and say:] "Among us, too, there is none but has a place assigned to it [by Him]; 164 "And we are verily ranged in ranks (for service); 165 And verily we! we hallow. 166 What though they would say, 167 If we had the account of earlier people with us, 168 then were we God's sincere servants.' 169 They therefore denied it, so they will soon come to know. 170 Already has Our Word been passed before (this) to our Servants sent (by Us), 171 That verily they! they shall be made triumphant. 172 And surely, only Our army will be victorious. 173 Therefore turn away from them for some time. 174 and watch them. They, too, will watch. 175 Do they wish (indeed) to hurry on our Punishment? 176 But when it descends in their territory, then evil is the morning of those who were warned. 177 So turn (away) from them for a while, 178 and watch. They, too, will watch. 179 Glory be to your Lord: the Lord of Glory is far above what they attribute to Him. 180 And Peace on the messengers! 181 It is only God, the Lord of the Universe, who deserves all praise. 182
