And indeed, Jonah was among the messengers. 139 Recall what time he ran away unto a laden ship. 140 He (agreed to) cast lots, and he was condemned: 141 So the whale swallowed him, for he was blameworthy, 142 Had it not been that he (repented and) glorified Allah, 143 He would have stayed in its belly till the day the dead are raised. 144 ۞ But We cast him forth on the naked shore while he was sick, 145 and We caused a pumpkin tree to grow over him. 146 And We sent him towards a hundred thousand people, in fact more. 147 And they believed, so We gave them provision till a time. 148 Now ask thou them: are there for thy Lord daughters and for them sons? 149 Or did We create the angels females while they were witnesses? 150 Unquestionably, it is out of their [invented] falsehood that they say, 151 "God has begotten (children)?" They are liars indeed! 152 Did He (then) choose daughters rather than sons? 153 What aileth you? How judge ye? 154 Will you not, then, bethink yourselves? 155 Or is there for you a plain authority? 156 Then bring ye your Book (of authority) if ye be truthful! 157 And they have invented a blood-relationship between Him and the Jinns: but the Jinns know (quite well) that they have indeed to appear (before his Judgment-Seat)! 158 God is too glorious to be described as they describe Him 159 Except His chosen creatures who do not. 160 You and whatever you worship 161 you shall not tempt any against Him 162 Save him Who is to roast in the Flaming Fire. 163 And the angels say, “Each one of us has an appointed known position.” 164 "And we are truly those who stand in rows, 165 and we glorify God". 166 What, would they then say: 167 'If only we had had a Reminder from the ancients, 168 we would certainly be true servants of God." 169 But (now) they disbelieve in it, so they will come to know. 170 Our Word had already preceded Our worshipers, the Messengers, 171 That they verily would be made triumphant. 172 And [that] indeed, Our soldiers will be those who overcome. 173 So turn (away) from them for a while. 174 and watch them. They, too, will watch. 175 What! would they then hasten on Our chastisement? 176 But when it shall descend in their court, evil shall then be the morning of the warned ones. 177 Withdraw from them awhile 178 And watch and they shall see (the torment)! 179 Glorified be thy Lord, the Lord of Majesty, from that which they attribute (unto Him) 180 And peace be upon all His message-bearers! 181 It is only God, the Lord of the Universe, who deserves all praise. 182
