Jonah too was one of the messengers. 139 when he ran away to the laden ship 140 And then they cast lots, and he was the one who lost; 141 So the whale swallowed him, for he was blameworthy, 142 And had he not been of those who exalt Allah, 143 he would have lingered in its belly till the Day they are resurrected. 144 ۞ But We cast him, upon the shore, and he was ill, 145 and We caused a gourd tree to grow over him. 146 We sent him to a hundred thousand men or more, 147 They believed in him so We granted them enjoyment for an appointed time. 148 So ask their opinion: “(Are you convinced) that your Lord should have daughters and you should have sons? 149 Or that We created the angels female, and they are witnesses (thereto)? 150 Is it not of their own calumny that they say, 151 'God has begotten a son.' They are certainly liars. 152 Hath He chosen daughters above sons? 153 What aileth you? How judge ye? 154 Will ye not then receive admonition? 155 Or have you a clear authority? 156 Then bring your Book if you are truthful! 157 And some people have invented a kinship between Him and all manner of invisible forces although [even] these invisible forces know well that, verily, they [who thus blaspheme against God] shall indeed be arraigned [before Him on Judgment Day: for] 158 God is too glorious for what they ascribe to Him 159 Save single-minded slaves of Allah. 160 neither you nor what you worship 161 Not against Him can you cause (any) to fall into trial, 162 Except such as are (themselves) going to the blazing Fire! 163 (Those ranged in ranks say): "Not one of us but has a place appointed; 164 We are surely those who are arranged in ranks. 165 and we glorify God". 166 They used to say before: 167 Had we a reminder from those of yore, 168 We would be single-minded slaves of Allah. 169 But (now that the Quran has come) they disbelieve therein (i.e. in the Quran and in Prophet Muhammad SAW, and all that which he brought, the Divine Revelation), so they will come to know! 170 Our word had already been given before to Our votaries, the apostles, -- 171 that, verily, they - they indeed - would be succoured, 172 And that certainly Our armies will be victorious. 173 (Muhammad), stay away from them for a while 174 And watch, for they will (soon) see. 175 Our torment seek they to hasten on! 176 So when it does descend in their courtyards – so what an evil morning it will be for those who were warned! 177 Leave them alone for a while, 178 And watch and they shall see (the torment)! 179 Glory be to your Lord: the Lord of Glory is far above what they attribute to Him. 180 And peace be unto the sent ones. 181 and praise belongs to God, the Lord of all Being. 182
