And lo! Jonah verily was of those sent (to warn) 139 When he ran away (like a slave from captivity) to the ship (fully) laden, 140 and cast lots, and he was among the losers (of the lots that were cast). 141 And the fish swallowed him while he was blameworthy; 142 Had he not been one of those who struggled hard, 143 He would have remained inside its belly until the Day they are resurrected. 144 ۞ But We cast him forth on the naked shore while he was sick, 145 And We caused to grow over him a gourd vine. 146 and We sent him forth to a nation of a hundred thousand or more, 147 and they believed, and We gave them enjoyment for awhile. 148 So inquire of them, [O Muhammad], "Does your Lord have daughters while they have sons? 149 Or created We the angels females while they were present? 150 Behold, it is one of their fabrications that they say: 151 'Allah has begotten' They are truly liars. 152 Has He chosen daughters above sons? 153 What ails you then, how you judge? 154 Will you not then reflect? 155 Or have ye an authority manifest? 156 Then produce your writ, if ye are truthful. 157 And they have claimed between Him and the jinn a lineage, but the jinn have already known that they [who made such claims] will be brought to [punishment]. 158 Glorified is Allah! (He is Free) from what they attribute unto Him! 159 Except the chosen bondmen of Allah. 160 You and whatever you worship 161 Ye cannot excite (anyone) against Him. 162 Except those who are predestined to burn in Hell! 163 There is not one of us but hath his known position. 164 Verily we range ourselves in rows (as humble servants) 165 we are they that give glory. 166 AND, INDEED, they [who deny the truth] have always been wont to say, 167 "If we had a message from [those of] the former peoples, 168 “We would certainly be the chosen bondmen of Allah.” 169 They have rejected the Quran. They will soon know the consequences (of their disbelief). 170 We decreed that Our Messenger servants 171 that it is certainly they who will be helped; 172 And surely, only Our army will be victorious. 173 Therefore turn away from them for some time. 174 and see them; soon they shall see! 175 Do they want to suffer Our torment immediately? 176 When it descends on their courtyards, how terrible that morning will be for those who were warned! 177 So turn (away) from them for a while, 178 And see thou: they themselves shall presently see. 179 Purity is to your Lord, the Lord of Honour, from all what they say. 180 And peace be upon the Envoys; 181 and all praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Universe. 182
