And, verily, Yunus (Jonah) was one of the Messengers. 139 He ran away to the laden ship, 140 And lots were cast (when a storm overtook them), he was rejected, (and thrown overboard). 141 The fish swallowed him up and he deserved (all this). 142 Had he not been of them who glorify Allah, 143 he would have tarried in its belly until the day they shall be raised; 144 ۞ But We threw him on a wide bare tract of land while he was ill; 145 And We caused a plant of gourd to grow over him. 146 Then We sent him to a hundred thousand or more, 147 and they believed, and We gave them enjoyment for awhile. 148 (Muhammad), ask them, "Do daughters belong to your Lord and sons to them? 149 Did We create the angels as females the while they witnessed?” 150 No indeed! It is one of their fabrications when they say: 151 That “Allah has offspring”; and indeed, surely, they are liars. 152 Has He chosen daughters above sons? 153 What is the matter with you that you make such strange judgements? 154 What, and will you not remember? 155 “Or do you have some clear proof?” 156 Produce, then, that divine writ of yours, if you are speaking the truth! 157 They claim that He has kinship with the jinn, yet the jinn themselves know that they will be produced before Him [for judgement]. 158 (They say): “Exalted be Allah above what they attribute to Him, 159 but not so the true servants of God, 160 Wherefore verily neither ye nor that which ye worship, 161 you shall not tempt any against Him 162 except for he who shall roast in Hell. 163 And the angels say, “Each one of us has an appointed known position.” 164 And indeed, we are those who line up [for prayer]. 165 And verily we! we hallow. 166 And surely they used to say: 167 If we had the account of earlier people with us, 168 We would be single-minded slaves of Allah. 169 But they disbelieved in it; soon they shall know! 170 And certainly Our word has already gone forth in respect of Our servants, the apostles: 171 [That] indeed, they would be those given victory 172 And surely, only Our army will be victorious. 173 Hence, turn thou aside for a while from those [who deny the truth,] 174 And wait; they will come to know soon. 175 Do they seek to hasten on Our Torment? 176 But when it shall descend in their court, evil shall then be the morning of the warned ones. 177 And turn thou aside from them for a season. 178 and see; soon they shall see! 179 Exalted be your Lord, the Lord of Glory, above what they attribute to Him, 180 And peace be upon the Envoys; 181 And all praise is due to God alone, the Sustainer of all the worlds! 182
