AND, BEHOLD, Jonah was indeed one of Our message-bearers 139 when he ran away to the laden ship 140 He (agreed to) cast lots, and he was condemned: 141 The fish swallowed him up and he deserved (all this). 142 and had he not been among those who exalt (Allah), 143 He would have indeed remained inside its belly (the fish) till the Day of Resurrection. 144 ۞ So We cast him, sick, on a barren shore, 145 and We caused a pumpkin tree to grow over him. 146 And We sent him to a hundred thousand, rather they exceeded. 147 And they believed; so We gave them enjoyment for a while. 148 So inquire of them, [O Muhammad], "Does your Lord have daughters while they have sons? 149 Have We created the angels as females before their very eyes? 150 Now surely it is of their own lie that they say: 151 “Allah has begotten.” They are liars! 152 Has He chosen daughters in preference to sons? 153 Woe to you! How terrible is your Judgment. 154 Will you then not take heed? 155 Or have you received some clear authority? 156 Then bring ye your Book (of authority) if ye be truthful! 157 And they imagine kinship between him and the jinn, whereas the jinn know well that they will be brought before (Him). 158 Hallowed be Allah from that which they ascribe to Him. 159 Not (so do) the Servants of Allah, sincere and devoted. 160 Wherefore verily neither ye nor that which ye worship, 161 can lure away from God any 162 unless it be such as rushes towards the blazing fire [of his own accord]! 163 As for us, there is none but has an appointed station. 164 we are those who stand ranged in ranks. 165 We glorify God." 166 And they surely were wont to say: 167 “If we had some advice from the earlier generations,” – 168 we would have been sincere worshipers of Allah' 169 And yet, [now that this divine writ has been placed before them,] they refuse to acknowledge it as true! In time, however, they will come to know [what it was that they had rejected]: 170 We have already given Our promise to Our Messengers 171 That they verily would be made triumphant. 172 And that Our hosts, they verily would be the victors. 173 So turn thou from them for a while, 174 And watch them (how they fare), and they soon shall see (how thou farest)! 175 What, do they seek to hasten Our punishment? 176 But when it shall descend in their court, evil shall then be the morning of the warned ones. 177 And leave them for a time. 178 And watch and they shall see (the torment)! 179 Glory be to your Lord, the Lord of Honor, above what they describe. 180 Peace be with the Messengers (of God). 181 And praise be to Allah, Lord of the Worlds! 182
