In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Sad. CONSIDER this Qur'an, endowed with all that one ought to remember! 1 Nay, but the unbelievers are steeped in arrogance and stubborn defiance. 2 How many a generation have We destroyed afore them, and they cried when there was not time of fleeing. 3 Now these [people] deem it strange that a warner should have come unto them from their own midst - and [so] the deniers of the truth are saying: "A [mere] spellbinder is he, a liar! 4 What! makes he the gods a single Allah? A strange thing is this, to be sure! 5 And the Council of them depart, saying 'Go! Be steadfast to your gods; this is a thing to be desired. 6 "We never heard (the like) of this among the people of these latter days: this is nothing but a made-up tale!" 7 Has this Exhortation been sent down among us only to him, to the exclusion of all others?” Nay, they are in doubt regarding My Exhortation, and are saying all this because they have not yet had any taste of My chastisement. 8 Do they possess the treasures of the mercy of your Lord, the Mighty, the Great Bestower? 9 Have they control over heavens and earth and whatever [lies] between them? Then let them climb up to heaven by ropes: 10 This is just one of the disgraced armies, that will be routed there and then. 11 The people of Nuh and Ad, and Firon, the lord of spikes, rejected (apostles) before them. 12 and the tribe of Thamud, and the people of Lot, and the dwellers of the Wood -- these were the confederates. 13 not one [was there] but gave the lie to the apostles - and thereupon My retribution fell due. 14
