S (Saad)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Sad. By the renowned Qur'an, 1 Nay, but those who disbelieve are in false pride and schism. 2 How many generations have We destroyed before them who cried (for mercy) when it was too late for escape. 3 They are surprised that a warner should come to them from among themselves. They say, "This is a magician, a great liar. 4 Does he make all the deities out to be one God? This is indeed a strange thing." 5 And their leaders launch forth [thus]: "Go ahead, and hold steadfastly onto your deities: this, behold, is the only thing to do! 6 "We never heard (the like) of this among the people of these latter days: this is nothing but a made-up tale!" 7 To him of all of us has the Reminder been sent down?" They are still in doubt about My admonition; but they have not tasted My punishment yet! 8 Or, are with them the treasures of the mercy of thy Lord, the Bestower? 9 Or [that] the dominion over the heavens and the earth and all that is between them is theirs? Why, then, let them try to ascend [to God-like power] by all [conceivable] means! 10 this host too, among other hosts, is bound to suffer defeat. 11 Before them, the people of Nooh had denied, and the tribe of A’ad, and Firaun who used to crucify. 12 And Samood and the people of Lut and the dwellers of the thicket; these were the parties. 13 None of them was such that it did not deny the Noble Messengers, therefore My punishment became inevitable. 14
