In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
SAD. I CALL to witness the admonishing Qur'an. 1 But nay - they who are bent on denying the truth are lost in [false] pride, and [hence] deeply in the wrong. 2 How many a generation We destroyed before them, and they called, but time was none to escape. 3 So they wonder that a Warner has come to them from among themselves! and the Unbelievers say, "This is a sorcerer telling lies! 4 Has he made the gods [only] one God? Indeed, this is a curious thing." 5 The chiefs among them go about, exhorting: Go and be staunch to your gods! Lo! this is a thing designed. 6 “We never heard of this even in Christianity, the latest religion; this is clearly a newly fabricated matter.” 7 What, out of all of us, has the Remembrance been sent down to him (Prophet Muhammad)' No, they are doubtful about My Remembrance, no, they have not yet tasted My punishment. 8 Or is it that they have the treasures of the mercy of your Lord, the Mighty, the great Giver? 9 Or, is theirs the Kingdom of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them? Then let them ascend by (their) means! 10 Here there is a host of the confederates only to be defeated. 11 The people of Nuh and Ad, and Firon, the lord of spikes, rejected (apostles) before them. 12 and [the tribe of] Thamud, and the people of Lot, and the dwellers of the wooded dales [of Madyan]: they all were leagued together, [as it were, in their unbelief:] 13 Not one of them but belied the Messengers, therefore My Torment was justified, 14
