S (Saad)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Sad. CONSIDER this Qur'an, endowed with all that one ought to remember! 1 Nay! those who disbelieve are in self-exaltation and opposition. 2 How many a generation have We destroyed afore them, and they cried when there was not time of fleeing. 3 Now they marvel that a warner has come to them from among them; and the unbelievers say, 'This is a lying sorcerer. 4 What! makes he the gods a single Allah? A strange thing is this, to be sure! 5 A group of the pagans walked out of a meeting with the Prophet and told the others, "Let us walk away. Be steadfast in the worship of your gods. This man wants to dominate you. 6 "We never heard (the like) of this among the people of these latter days: this is nothing but a made-up tale!" 7 Was the message sent only to him out of all of us?" In fact, they doubt My warning; in fact, they have not yet tasted My punishment. 8 Do they possess the treasures of the mercy of your Lord, the Mighty, the Great Bestower? 9 Or is the kingdom of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them theirs? Then let them ascend by ropes! 10 Here there is a host of the confederates only to be defeated. 11 Before them (were many who) belied Messengers, the people of Nuh (Noah); and 'Ad; and Fir'aun (Pharaoh) the man of stakes (with which he used to punish the people), 12 and Thamood, and the people of Lot, and the men of the Thicket - those were the parties; 13 Each of them gave the lie to Messengers and My decree of chastisement came upon them. 14
