S (Saad)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Sad, and by the Qur'an full of exhortation! 1 Those who deny the truth are steeped in arrogance and hostility. 2 How many a generation have We destroyed afore them, and they cried when there was not time of fleeing. 3 They are surprised that a warner should come to them from among themselves. They say, "This is a magician, a great liar. 4 What! makes he the gods a single Allah? A strange thing is this, to be sure! 5 A group of the pagans walked out of a meeting with the Prophet and told the others, "Let us walk away. Be steadfast in the worship of your gods. This man wants to dominate you. 6 We have not heard of any such thing in the old religion. This is nothing but a fabrication. 7 Has the message been revealed to him out of [all of] us?" Rather, they are in doubt about My message. Rather, they have not yet tasted My punishment. 8 Or, have they the treasuries of the Mercy of your Lord, the Almighty, the Giving? 9 Or [that] the dominion over the heavens and the earth and all that is between them is theirs? Why, then, let them try to ascend [to God-like power] by all [conceivable] means! 10 [They are but] soldiers [who will be] defeated there among the companies [of disbelievers]. 11 Even before them the people of Noah, 'Ad, the mighty Pharoah, 12 and [the tribe of] Thamud, and the people of Lot, and the dwellers of the wooded dales [of Madyan]: they all were leagued together, [as it were, in their unbelief:] 13 Not one (of them) but rejected the messengers, but My punishment came justly and inevitably (on them). 14
