S (Saad)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Sad, and by the Qur'an full of exhortation! 1 But nay - they who are bent on denying the truth are lost in [false] pride, and [hence] deeply in the wrong. 2 How many a generation have We destroyed before them, and they [then] called out; but it was not a time for escape. 3 They were surprised that one of them had come to them as warner; and the unbelievers said: "He is a deceiving sorcerer. 4 Does he make all the deities out to be one God? This is indeed a strange thing." 5 And the eminent among them went forth, [saying], "Continue, and be patient over [the defense of] your gods. Indeed, this is a thing intended. 6 We have not heard of any such thing in the old religion. This is nothing but a fabrication. 7 Was the message sent only to him out of all of us?" In fact, they doubt My warning; in fact, they have not yet tasted My punishment. 8 Or have they the treasuries of thy Lord's mercy, the All-mighty, the All-giving? 9 Or have they the dominion of the heavens and the earth and all between? If so, let them mount up with the ropes and means (to reach that end)! 10 Here there is a host of the confederates only to be defeated. 11 The people of Nuh and Ad, and Firon, the lord of spikes, rejected (apostles) before them. 12 And Thamud, and the people of Lout (Lot), and the dwellers of the wood; such were the confederates. 13 Of all these there was not one who did not deny the messengers. So My retribution was justified. 14
