they have only to wait for one single blast [of punishment]: it shall not be delayed by one whit. 15 They say, 'Our Lord, hasten to us our share before the Day of Reckoning.' 16 Bear patiently with what they say, and remember Our worshiper David, a man of might. He was ever turning in repentance. 17 We made the mountains join him in glorifying Us in the evening and in the morning. 18 And the birds assembled; all were turning unto Him. 19 We made his kingdom strong, and bestowed upon him wisdom and sagacity in judgement. 20 ۞ And has the news of the litigants reached you? When they climbed over the wall into (his) Mihrab (a praying place or a private room,). 21 when they entered upon David, and he took fright at them; and they said, 'Fear not; two disputants we are -- one of us has injured the other; so judge between us justly, and transgress not, and guide us to the right path.' 22 “This is my brother; he has ninety nine ewes and I have one ewe; and he now says ‘Give that one also to me’ – and he is very demanding in speech.” 23 (David) said: "He has undoubtedly wronged thee in demanding thy (single) ewe to be added to his (flock of) ewes: truly many are the partners (in business) who wrong each other: Not so do those who believe and work deeds of righteousness, and how few are they?"... and David gathered that We had tried him: he asked forgiveness of his Lord, fell down, bowing (in prostration), and turned (to Allah in repentance). ۩ 24 So We forgave him that; and lo! he had access to Our presence and a happy journey's end. 25 We told him. "David, We have appointed you as Our deputy on earth so judge among the people with truth. Do not follow (worldly) desires lest you go astray from the way of God. Those who go astray from the way of God will suffer severe torment for forgetting the Day of Reckoning. 26
