They await just one Scream, which no one can avert. 15 They say: 'Our Lord, hasten to us our share before the Day of Recompense' 16 Bear patiently what they say, and remember Our servant David, the man of might; he was a penitent. 17 We made the mountains join him in glorifying Us at sunset and sunrise; 18 We made the birds assemble around him in flocks. 19 We strengthened his kingdom, giving him wisdom and the power of sound Judgment. 20 ۞ And hath the story of the litigants come unto thee? How they climbed the wall into the royal chamber; 21 When they entered the presence of David, and he was terrified of them, they said: "Fear not: we are two disputants, one of whom has wronged the other: Decide now between us with truth, and treat us not with injustice, but guide us to the even Path.. 22 Verily, this my brother (in religion) has ninety nine ewes, while I have (only) one ewe, and he says: "Hand it over to me, and he overpowered me in speech." 23 [David] said, "He has certainly wronged you in demanding your ewe [in addition] to his ewes. And indeed, many associates oppress one another, except for those who believe and do righteous deeds - and few are they." And David became certain that We had tried him, and he asked forgiveness of his Lord and fell down bowing [in prostration] and turned in repentance [to Allah]. ۩ 24 We forgave him for this. In Our eyes he certainly has a good position and the best share (of the world to come). 25 O Da-ud! verily We have appointed thee a vicegerent in the earth, so judge between mankind with truth, and follow not desire, lest it cause thee to err from the path of Allah. Verily those who err from the path of Allah - unto them shall be a severe torment, for they forgat the Day of Reckoning. 26
