Shall he then whose breast Allah hath expanded for Islam, so that he followeth a light from his Lord be as he whose heart is hardened? Then woe unto those whose hearts are hardened against remembrance of Allah. They are in an error manifest. 22 Allah hath (now) revealed the fairest of statements, a Scripture consistent, (wherein promises of reward are) paired (with threats of punishment), whereat doth creep the flesh of those who fear their Lord, so that their flesh and their hearts soften to Allah's reminder. Such is Allah's guidance, wherewith He guideth whom He will. And him whom Allah sendeth astray, for him there is no guide. 23 Is, then, one who has to fear the brunt of the Penalty on the Day of Judgment (and receive it) on his face, (like one guarded therefrom)? It will be said to the wrong-doers: "Taste ye (the fruits of) what ye earned!" 24 Those who lived before them did [too] give the lie to the truth - whereupon suffering befell them without their having perceived whence it came: 25 Allah let them taste degradation in this present life, but the punishment of the Everlasting Life shall be greater if they but knew. 26 And certainly We have set forth to men in this Quran similitudes of every sort that they may mind. 27 [It is] an Arabic Qur'an, without any deviance that they might become righteous. 28 Allah has struck an example of a man shared by disagreeing partners, and a man who is owned by just one man, are the two equally alike? Praise belongs to Allah, but most of them do not know. 29 Truly thou wilt die (one day), and truly they (too) will die (one day). 30 Then you will dispute before your Lord on the Day of Resurrection. 31
