Elucidated (Fussilat)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Ha Mim! 1 This is a revelation from the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate, 2 A Scripture whereof the verses are expounded, a Lecture in Arabic for people who have knowledge, 3 good tidings to bear, and warning, but most of them have turned away, and do not give ear. 4 And say: "Our hearts are immured against what you call us to. There is a deafness in our ears, and a veil lies between us and you. So act (your way), we are acting (ours)." 5 Say thou: "I am but a man like you: It is revealed to me by Inspiration, that your Allah is one Allah: so stand true to Him, and ask for His Forgiveness." And woe to those who join gods with Allah,- 6 who do not pay zakat and have no faith in the life to come. 7 As to those who have faith and do good works, surely theirs shall be a never-ending reward. 8
