The Amramites (Al-Imraan)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
A. L. M. 1 God exists. He is the only Lord, the Everlasting and the Guardian of life. 2 Step by step has He bestowed upon thee from on high this divine writ, setting forth the truth which confirms whatever there still remains [of earlier revelations]: for it is He who has bestowed from on high the Torah and the Gospel 3 in the past as guidance for mankind; He has [also] sent down the Standard by which to discern the true from the false. Surely those who deny God's signs will suffer severe punishment. God is mighty and capable of retribution. 4 Nothing in the earth and in the heavens is hidden from Allah. 5 It is He who shapes you in your mothers' wombs as He wills. There is no god except Him, the Almighty, the Wise. 6 It is He who has sent down to you the Book. Some of its verses are precise in meaning they are the foundation of the Book and others obscure. Those whose hearts are swerving with disbelief, follow the obscure desiring sedition and desiring its interpretation, but no one knows its interpretation except Allah. Those who are wellgrounded in knowledge say: 'We believe in it, it is all from our Lord. And none remember except those who are possessed of minds. 7 Our Lord! suffer not our hearts to deviate after that Thou hast guided us, and bestow on us from Thine presence mercy. Verily Thou! Thou art the Bestower! 8 You will gather mankind together, O Lord, on a day that is certain to come, and God does not fail in His promise. 9
