Whatever misfortune befalls you is of your own doing, God forgives much, 30 You cannot challenge God on earth and you will have no one besides Him as your guardian or helper. 31 Further evidence (of His existence) are the ships which stand as mountains in the sea. 32 If He pleases, He causes the wind to become still so that they lie motionless on its back; most surely there are signs in this for every patient, grateful one, 33 Or He may make them founder for what they have earned, and (even then) pardon most; 34 And let them know, those who call Our messages in question, that for them there is no escape. 35 Whatever ye are given (here) is (but) a convenience of this life: but that which is with Allah is better and more lasting: (it is) for those who believe and put their trust in their Lord: 36 And (for) those who avoid cardinal sins and indecencies, and forgive (even) when they are angry. 37 who respond to their Lord and attend to their prayers; who conduct their affairs by mutual consultation and spend out of what We have provided for them; 38 and who, when insolence visits them, do help themselves -- 39 The recompense for an evil is an evil like thereof, but whoever forgives and makes reconciliation, his reward is due from Allah. Verily, He likes not the Zalimun (oppressors, polytheists, and wrong-doers, etc.). 40 Those who defend themselves after they have been wronged cannot be held blameworthy, 41 Blame lies on those who oppress, and terrorise the land unjustly. For them there is painful punishment. 42 And verily, whosoever shows patience and forgives that would truly be from the things recommended by Allah. 43
