Whatever hardship befalls you is the result of your own deeds. God pardons many of your sins. 30 You cannot thwart Him on the earth, and have no friend or helper apart from Him. 31 And of His portents are the ships, like banners on the sea; 32 if He will, He calms the wind so that they remain motionless upon its back, surely, there are signs in this for every thankful, patient (person). 33 Or He could wreck them for what they have done; yet there is much that He pardons. 34 Then those who wrangle about Our Signs will come to know that there is no escape for them. 35 That which has been given to you is only the wherewithal of the transient life of this world. But that which is with Allah is better and more enduring for those who believe and put their trust in their Lord; 36 Those who avoid the greater crimes and shameful deeds, and, when they are angry even then forgive; 37 who respond to their Lord and attend to their prayers; who conduct their affairs by mutual consultation and spend out of what We have provided for them; 38 and who, when insolence visits them, do help themselves -- 39 The recompense for an injury is an injury equal thereto (in degree): but if a person forgives and makes reconciliation, his reward is due from Allah: for (Allah) loveth not those who do wrong. 40 And whoever defends himself after his being oppressed, these it is against whom there is no way (to blame). 41 blame falls only on those who wrong men and transgress on this earth without justification, such will have a painful punishment, 42 And whoever is patient and forgiving, these most surely are actions due to courage. 43
