If affliction befalls you, it is what your own hands have earned, but He pardons a lot. 30 Ye cannot escape in the earth, for beside Allah ye have no protecting friend nor any helper. 31 And among His Signs are the ships, smooth-running through the ocean, (tall) as mountains. 32 If He so wills, He can cause the winds to become still so that they will remain motionless on its surface. Surely there are many Signs in this for those who are wont to be steadfast and give thanks. 33 Or He may destroy them (by drowning) because of that which their (people) have earned. And He pardons much. 34 And for those who dispute regarding Our signs to realise; that they do not have a place to escape to. 35 Now whatever ye have been given is but a passing comfort for the life of the world, and that which Allah hath is better and more lasting for those who believe and put their trust in their Lord, 36 And those who avoid the major sins and immoralities, and when they are angry, they forgive, 37 And those who answer the call of their Lord and establish worship, and whose affairs are a matter of counsel, and who spend of what We have bestowed on them, 38 who, when they are attacked, defend themselves. 39 The recompense for evil will be equivalent to the deed. He who pardons (the evil done to him) and reforms himself, will receive his reward from God. God certainly does not love the unjust. 40 And whoso defendeth himself after he hath suffered wrong - for such, there is no way (of blame) against them. 41 The way (of blame) is only against those who oppress mankind, and wrongfully rebel in the earth. For such there is a painful doom. 42 To exercise patience and forgive (the wrong done to one) is the proof of genuine determination. 43
