Whatever misfortune befalls you is of your own doing, God forgives much, 30 you cannot escape Him anywhere on earth. You have no protector or helper other than God. 31 Ships sailing in the ocean like ensigns are a sign of His. 32 If He so wills, He can cause the winds to become still so that they will remain motionless on its surface. Surely there are many Signs in this for those who are wont to be steadfast and give thanks. 33 Or He may destroy them because of that which they have earned, and He may pardon many of them. 34 Then those who wrangle about Our Signs will come to know that there is no escape for them. 35 Whatever ye are given (here) is (but) a convenience of this life: but that which is with Allah is better and more lasting: (it is) for those who believe and put their trust in their Lord: 36 And (for) those who avoid cardinal sins and indecencies, and forgive (even) when they are angry. 37 Who obey the commands of their Lord and fulfil their devotional obligations, whose affairs are settled by mutual consultation, who spend of what We have given them, 38 And those who, when an oppressive wrong is done to them, they take revenge. 39 The recompense for an injury is an injury equal thereto (in degree): but if a person forgives and makes reconciliation, his reward is due from Allah: for (Allah) loveth not those who do wrong. 40 But indeed if any do help and defend themselves after a wrong (done) to them, against such there is no cause of blame. 41 The way (to blame) is only against those who oppress men and revolt in the earth unjustly; these shall have a painful punishment. 42 And whosoever forbeareth and forgiveth - that verily is of the firmness of affairs. 43
