Vanity (Al-Zukhruf)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha. Mim. 1 I call to witness the lucent Book, 2 Surely We have made it an Arabic Quran that you may understand. 3 and behold, it is in the Essence of the Book, with Us; sublime indeed, wise. 4 What! shall We then turn away the reminder from you altogether because you are an extravagant people? 5 How many Messengers did We send to the ancient people? 6 But there would not come to them a prophet except that they used to ridicule him. 7 so We destroyed those who were mightier in courage than they. And the example of the ancients has passed away. 8 And if thou askest them: who hath created the heavens and the earth? they will surely say: created them the Mighty, the Knower. 9 It is He who has made the earth for you as a cradle and has made roads therein so that you will perhaps seek guidance. 10 Who sent down water in due measure from the sky, then quickened a region that was dead -- So shall We bring you forth -- 11 it is He who created all living things in pairs and gave you ships to sail in and beasts to ride upon 12 so that you may sit firmly on their backs. Then once you have mounted them, remember your Lord's favour and say, "Glory be to Him who has subjected these creatures to us; we would never on our own have subdued them. 13 And lo! unto our Lord we surely are returning. 14 The pagans have considered some of His servants as His children. There is no doubt that the human being is simply ungrateful. 15
