Vanity (Al-Zukhruf)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Ha Mim. 1 By the Clear Book; 2 behold, We have caused it to be a discourse in the Arabic tongue, so that you might encompass it with your reason. 3 Truly, it is inscribed in the Original Book, in Our keeping; it is sublime and full of wisdom. 4 Then should We turn the message away, disregarding you, because you are a transgressing people? 5 Many a prophet had We sent to the earlier communities, 6 And not a prophet came unto them but him they were wont to mock. 7 We therefore destroyed the people who were more forceful than these, and the example of the earlier ones has already gone by. 8 And if you ask them, “Who has created the heavens and the earth?”, they will surely say, “They are created by the Most Honourable, the All Knowing.” 9 He Who made the earth a resting-place for you, and made in it ways for you that you may go aright; 10 And He it is who sends down, again and again, waters from the sky in due measure: and [as] We raise therewith dead land to life, even thus will you be brought forth [from the dead]. 11 And He Who created pairs of all things, and made for you of the ships and the cattle what you ride on, 12 In order that you may mount firmly on their backs, and then may remember the Favour of your Lord when you mount thereon, and say: "Glory to Him who has subjected this to us, and we could never have it (by our efforts)." 13 And surely to our Lord we must return. 14 Yet they assign to some of His slaves a share with Him (by pretending that He has children, and considering them as equals or co-partners in worship with Him). Verily, man is indeed a manifest ingrate! 15
