Vanity (Al-Zukhruf)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
HaMeem. 1 CONSIDER this divine writ, clear in itself and clearly showing the truth: 2 behold, We have caused it to be a discourse in the Arabic tongue, so that you might encompass it with your reason. 3 And verily, it is in the Mother of the Book, in Our Presence, high (in dignity), full of wisdom. 4 Shall We then take away from you the admonition because ye are a people extravagant? 5 But how many were the prophets We sent amongst the peoples of old? 6 but not a Prophet came to them, without they mocked at him; 7 so We destroyed those who were mightier than these; such was the example of the earlier peoples. 8 And if thou askest them: who hath created the heavens and the earth? they will surely say: created them the Mighty, the Knower. 9 (Yea, the same that) has made for you the earth (like a carpet) spread out, and has made for you roads (and channels) therein, in order that ye may find guidance (on the way); 10 It is He who sends water down from the sky in due measure, We revive dead land with it and likewise you will be resurrected from the grave, 11 it is He who created all living things in pairs and gave you ships to sail in and beasts to ride upon 12 so that perhaps when you ride them, you will recall the bounties of your Lord and when you establish your control over it you would say, "Glory belongs to Him who has made it subservient to us when we would not have been able to do so ourselves. 13 And to our Lord we shall surely return." 14 Yet they have assigned to Him a part of His own servants! Man is dearly unthankful. 15
