Vanity (Al-Zukhruf)
89 verses, revealed in Mecca after Consultation (Al-Shooraa) before Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Ha-Meem. (Alphabets of the Arabic language Allah, and to whomever He reveals, know their precise meanings.) 1 I call to witness the lucent Book, 2 Indeed, We have made it an Arabic Qur'an that you might understand. 3 and behold, it is in the Essence of the Book, with Us; sublime indeed, wise. 4 Then should We turn the message away, disregarding you, because you are a transgressing people? 5 And how many a prophet We sent among the former peoples, 6 but not a Prophet came to them, without they mocked at him; 7 And We destroyed greater than them in [striking] power, and the example of the former peoples has preceded. 8 If you ask them, "Who has created the heavens and the earth?", they will surely answer, "The Almighty, the All Knowing One has created them." 9 He Who made the earth a resting-place for you, and made in it ways for you that you may go aright; 10 And Who sends down water (rain) from the sky in due measure. Then We revive a dead land therewith, and even so you will be brought forth (from the dead), 11 That has created pairs in all things, and has made for you ships and cattle on which ye ride, 12 So that you may properly mount their backs, and may remember your Lord’s favour when you have mounted them, and say, “Purity is to Him, Who has given this ride in our control, and we did not have the strength for it.” 13 surely unto our Lord we are turning.' 14 Yet they assign to some of His slaves a share with Him (by pretending that He has children, and considering them as equals or co-partners in worship with Him). Verily, man is indeed a manifest ingrate! 15
