Vanity (Al-Zukhruf)
89 verses, revealed in Mecca after Consultation (Al-Shooraa) before Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Ha, Meem. 1 By the Book that makes things clear, 2 That We made it a distinctly lucid Qur'an that you may understand. 3 And Verily, it (this Quran) is in the Mother of the Book (i.e. Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz), before Us, indeed Exalted, full of Wisdom. 4 Shall We then take away from you the admonition because ye are a people extravagant? 5 How many a Prophet We sent among the ancients, 6 But never did a prophet come at whom they did not scoff. 7 We destroyed the strongest among them in power. The stories of the ancient people have already been mentioned. 8 And if you should ask them, Who created the heavens and the earth? they would most certainly say: The Mighty, the Knowing One, has created them; 9 (Yea, the same that) has made for you the earth (like a carpet) spread out, and has made for you roads (and channels) therein, in order that ye may find guidance (on the way); 10 And Who sendeth down from the heaven water in measure; then We quicken a dead land therewith: even so ye shall be brought forth. 11 It is He who has created everything in pairs and the ships and cattle for you to ride, 12 so that you can sit upon their backs and then remember the Favors of your Lord and say: 'Exaltations to Him who has subjected these to us otherwise, we ourselves were not capable of it, 13 And surely to our Lord we must return. 14 Yet they make some of His servants partners in His divinity. Man is clearly ungrateful! 15
