Vanity (Al-Zukhruf)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Ha-Meem. (Alphabets of the Arabic language – Allah, and to whomever He reveals, know their precise meanings.) 1 By the manifest Book (that makes things clear, i.e. this Quran). 2 We have made it an Arabic reading text so that perhaps you may understand. 3 It is inscribed in the original Book (of Books) with Us, sublime, dispenser of (all) laws. 4 [O YOU who deny the truth!] Should We, perchance, withdraw this reminder from you altogether, seeing that you are people bent on wasting your own selves? 5 How many a prophet did We send among the men of old! 6 Yet never did a Prophet come to them but they mocked him. 7 so We destroyed those who were mightier than these; such was the example of the earlier peoples. 8 And if you ask them, “Who has created the heavens and the earth?”, they will surely say, “They are created by the Most Honourable, the All Knowing.” 9 (It is) He who made the earth to be a cradle for you and made in it ways for you, in order that you are guided. 10 He Who sent down water from the sky in a determined measure, and thereby We revived a dead land: likewise will you be raised up (from the earth) -- 11 And Who hath treated the pairs, all of them, and appointed for you from ships and cattle things whereon ye ride. 12 That you may firmly sit on their backs, then remember the favor of your Lord when you are firmly seated thereon, and say: Glory be to Him Who made this subservient to us and we were not able to do it 13 "And to our Lord, surely, must we turn back!" 14 Yet they have assigned to Him a part of His own servants! Man is dearly unthankful. 15
