Vanity (Al-Zukhruf)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Ha-Mim. [These letters are one of the miracles of the Quran, and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings]. 1 By the Clear Book, 2 behold, We have caused it to be a discourse in the Arabic tongue, so that you might encompass it with your reason. 3 It is inscribed in the original Book (of Books) with Us, sublime, dispenser of (all) laws. 4 Shall We then take away from you the admonition because ye are a people extravagant? 5 And how many a prophet have We sent among the ancients. 6 But never did a prophet come at whom they did not scoff. 7 and so, [in the end,] We destroyed them [even though they were] of greater might than these: and the [very] image of those people of old became a thing of the past. 8 If thou askest them, 'Who created the heavens and earth?' they will say, 'The All-mighty, the All-knowing created them.' 9 (Yea, the same that) has made for you the earth (like a carpet) spread out, and has made for you roads (and channels) therein, in order that ye may find guidance (on the way); 10 and who sent down out of heaven water in measure; and We revived thereby a land that was dead; even so you shall be brought forth; 11 And Who hath treated the pairs, all of them, and appointed for you from ships and cattle things whereon ye ride. 12 That you may firmly sit on their backs, then remember the favor of your Lord when you are firmly seated thereon, and say: Glory be to Him Who made this subservient to us and we were not able to do it 13 “And indeed we have to return to our Lord.” 14 Yet they assign to Him some of His own (created) worshipers! Clearly, the human is unthankful. 15
