Vanity (Al-Zukhruf)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Ha-Meem. (Alphabets of the Arabic language – Allah, and to whomever He reveals, know their precise meanings.) 1 By the clear Book, 2 Indeed, We have made it an Arabic Qur'an that you might understand. 3 Indeed it is transcribed in the Original Book with Us; sublime and full of wisdom. 4 Then should We turn the message away, disregarding you, because you are a transgressing people? 5 We have sent many a prophet to earlier peoples 6 And not a prophet came unto them but him they were wont to mock. 7 We utterly destroyed them although they were greater in might than these. The examples of ancient peoples have gone before. 8 And if you ask them, “Who has created the heavens and the earth?”, they will surely say, “They are created by the Most Honourable, the All Knowing.” 9 He it is Who made this earth for you a cradle and made in it pathways for you that you may find the way to your destination; 10 And Who sends down water (rain) from the sky in due measure. Then We revive a dead land therewith, and even so you will be brought forth (from the dead), 11 And He it is who has created all opposites. And He [it is who] has provided for you all those ships and animals whereon you ride, 12 so that you can sit upon their backs and then remember the Favors of your Lord and say: 'Exaltations to Him who has subjected these to us otherwise, we ourselves were not capable of it, 13 And surely to our Lord we must return. 14 Yet they assign to some of His slaves a share with Him (by pretending that He has children, and considering them as equals or co-partners in worship with Him). Verily, man is indeed a manifest ingrate! 15
