Vanity (Al-Zukhruf)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
HA MIM. 1 By the Clear Book; 2 Lo! We have appointed it a Lecture, in Arabic that haply ye may understand. 3 Truly, it is inscribed in the Original Book, in Our keeping; it is sublime and full of wisdom. 4 Then should We turn the message away, disregarding you, because you are a transgressing people? 5 And how many a Prophet have We sent amongst the men of old. 6 And never came there a prophet to them but they mocked him. 7 Wherefore We destroyed peoples mightier than these in prowess; and there hath gone forth the example of the ancients. 8 And if you should ask them, Who created the heavens and the earth? they would most certainly say: The Mighty, the Knowing One, has created them; 9 Who has made for you the earth like a bed, and has made for you roads therein, in order that you may find your way, 10 And He Who sends down water from the cloud according to a measure, then We raise to life thereby a dead country, even thus shall you be brought forth; 11 And He it is who has created all opposites. And He [it is who] has provided for you all those ships and animals whereon you ride, 12 so that you may sit firmly on their backs. Then once you have mounted them, remember your Lord's favour and say, "Glory be to Him who has subjected these creatures to us; we would never on our own have subdued them. 13 Surely we have to go back to our Lord." 14 Yet they attribute to some of His servants a share with Him (in his godhead)! truly is man a blasphemous ingrate avowed! 15
