Vanity (Al-Zukhruf)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Ha Mim 1 By the Clear Book, 2 We verily, have made it a Quran in Arabic, that you may be able to understand (its meanings and its admonitions). 3 and behold, it is in the Essence of the Book, with Us; sublime indeed, wise. 4 Shall We utterly ignore you because ye are a wanton folk? 5 Many a prophet had We sent to the earlier communities, 6 Yet never did a Prophet come to them but they mocked him. 7 We destroyed the strongest among them in power. The stories of the ancient people have already been mentioned. 8 And if you ask them, “Who has created the heavens and the earth?”, they will surely say, “They are created by the Most Honourable, the All Knowing.” 9 It is He who has made the earth for you as a cradle and has made roads therein so that you will perhaps seek guidance. 10 Who sent down water in due measure from the sky, then quickened a region that was dead -- So shall We bring you forth -- 11 And He it is who has created all opposites. And He [it is who] has provided for you all those ships and animals whereon you ride, 12 so that when you are mounted upon them you may remember the bounty of your Lord, and say: “Glory be to Him Who has subjected this to Us whereas we did not have the strength to subdue it. 13 surely unto our Lord we are turning.' 14 And they appoint for Him from His bondmen a part! Verily man is an ingrate manifest. 15
