Vanity (Al-Zukhruf)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Ha-Meem. (Alphabets of the Arabic language – Allah, and to whomever He reveals, know their precise meanings.) 1 I swear by the Book that makes things clear: 2 behold, We have made it an Arabic Koran; haply you will understand; 3 And the Qur’an is undoubtedly, in the Original Book with Us, surely the exalted, full of wisdom. 4 What! shall We then turn away the reminder from you altogether because you are an extravagant people? 5 We have sent many a prophet to earlier peoples 6 but whenever a prophet came to them, they mocked him, 7 and so, [in the end,] We destroyed them [even though they were] of greater might than these: and the [very] image of those people of old became a thing of the past. 8 And if you ask them, “Who has created the heavens and the earth?”, they will surely say, “They are created by the Most Honourable, the All Knowing.” 9 He who appointed the earth to be a cradle for you, and appointed ways for you therein, that haply you may be guided; 10 Who sent down water in due measure from the sky, then quickened a region that was dead -- So shall We bring you forth -- 11 That has created pairs in all things, and has made for you ships and cattle on which ye ride, 12 In order that you may mount firmly on their backs, and then may remember the Favour of your Lord when you mount thereon, and say: "Glory to Him who has subjected this to us, and we could never have it (by our efforts)." 13 surely unto our Lord we are turning.' 14 Yet they attribute to some of His servants a share with Him (in his godhead)! truly is man a blasphemous ingrate avowed! 15
