And when Abraham said to his father and his people, 'Surely I am quit of that you serve, 26 Except for He who created me; and indeed, He will guide me." 27 God made (belief in one God) an everlasting task for his successors, so that perhaps they would return (to Him). 28 I gave them and their fathers days of enjoyment until the truth and a clear Messenger came to them. 29 And when there came to them the truth they said: This is magic, and surely we are disbelievers in it. 30 And they say: wherefore hath not this Qur'an been revealed to a man of the two cities who was great. 31 Shall they apportion their Lord's mercy? It is We Who have apportioned among them their livelihood in the life of the world, and raised some of them over others in degrees, so that one of them may take another as a serf; and the mercy of thy Lord is better than that which they amass. 32 And were it not that all mankind would have become of one community (all disbelievers, desiring worldly life only), We would have provided for those who disbelieve in the Most Beneficent (Allah), silver roofs for their houses, and elevators (and stair-ways, etc. of silver) whereby they ascend, 33 with doors to their houses and couches on which to recline; 34 And (other) embellishments of gold; and all this is naught but provision of this world's life, and the hereafter is with your Lord only for those who guard (against evil). 35
