Call to mind when Abraham said to his father and his people: “I totally disown all whom you serve 26 except for the One who has created me and will guide me". 27 And Ibrahim kept this declaration among his progeny, in order that they may desist. 28 Nay, but I gave these and their fathers enjoyment of days, until the truth came unto them, and a manifest Messenger. 29 And when there came to them the truth they said: This is magic, and surely we are disbelievers in it. 30 And they say: "Why is not this Quran sent down to some great man of the two towns (Makkah and Ta'if)?" 31 Do they distribute the mercy of your Lord? It is We who have apportioned among them their livelihood in the life of this world and have raised some of them above others in degrees [of rank] that they may make use of one another for service. But the mercy of your Lord is better than whatever they accumulate. 32 And were it not that mankind would be one nation, We would have appointed for those who disbelieve in the All-merciful roofs of silver to their houses, and stairs whereon to mount, 33 and (silver) doors to their houses, and couches (of silver) upon which they would recline; 34 And ornament of gold. And yet all that would have been but a provision of the life of the world; and the Hereafter with thy Lord is for the Godfearing. 35
