And recall what time Ibrahim said unto his father and his people: verily I am quit of that which ye worship. 26 Except for He who created me; and indeed, He will guide me." 27 And he made it a word enduring among his seed, that haply they might return. 28 Aye! I let these and their fathers enjoy life, until there hath come unto them the truth and an apostle manifest. 29 And now that the Truth hath come unto them they say: This is mere magic, and lo! we are disbelievers therein. 30 And they say: wherefore hath not this Qur'an been revealed to a man of the two cities who was great. 31 Will they distribute the mercy of your Lord? We distribute among them their livelihood in the life of this world, and We j have exalted some of them above others in degrees, that some of them may take others in subjection; and the mercy of your Lord is better than what they amass. 32 If it were not that all mankind might have become one community [of disbelievers], We could have given all those who deny the Lord of Mercy, houses with roofs of silver, silver staircases to ascend, 33 And (silver) doors to their houses, and thrones (of silver) on which they could recline, 34 And adornments of gold. Yet all this (i.e. the roofs, doors, stairs, elevators, thrones etc. of their houses) would have been nothing but an enjoyment of this world. And the Hereafter with your Lord is only for the Muttaqun. 35
