And recall what time Ibrahim said unto his father and his people: verily I am quit of that which ye worship. 26 "(I worship) only Him Who made me, and He will certainly guide me." 27 And he made it a word remaining among his descendants that they might return [to it]. 28 I gave them and their fathers days of enjoyment until the truth and a clear Messenger came to them. 29 But when the Truth came to them, they said: "This is sorcery, and we do reject it." 30 Also, they say: "Why is not this Qur'an sent down to some leading man in either of the two (chief) cities?" 31 Is it they who apportion the mercy of your Lord? It is We who distribute among them their livelihood in the life of this world, and raise some of them above others in rank, so that they may take one another into service; and the mercy of your Lord is better than [the wealth] which they amass. 32 If it were not that all mankind might have become one community [of disbelievers], We could have given all those who deny the Lord of Mercy, houses with roofs of silver, silver staircases to ascend, 33 And (silver) doors to their houses, and thrones (of silver) on which they could recline, 34 and gold, surely, all this is but the enjoyment of this present life. The Everlasting Life with your Lord is for those who fear (Him). 35
