Call to mind when Abraham said to his father and his people, "I disown utterly that which you worship. 26 except the One Who created me; and, behold, it is He Who will direct me to the Right Way.” 27 And he made it a word to continue in his posterity that they may return. 28 However, I gave enjoyment to these [people of Makkah] and their fathers until there came to them the truth and a clear Messenger. 29 And when the truth came to them, they said, 'This is a sorcery, and in it we are unbelievers.' 30 And they said, “Why was the Qur’an not sent down upon some chieftain of these two great towns?” (The chiefs of Mecca and Taif). 31 Shall they apportion their Lord's mercy? It is We Who have apportioned among them their livelihood in the life of the world, and raised some of them over others in degrees, so that one of them may take another as a serf; and the mercy of thy Lord is better than that which they amass. 32 And were it not that (all) men might become of one (evil) way of life, We would provide, for everyone that blasphemes against (Allah) Most Gracious, silver roofs for their houses and (silver) stair-ways on which to go up, 33 with doors to their houses and couches on which to recline; 34 And adornments of gold. Yet all this (i.e. the roofs, doors, stairs, elevators, thrones etc. of their houses) would have been nothing but an enjoyment of this world. And the Hereafter with your Lord is only for the Muttaqun. 35
