Whoso blinds himself to the Remembrance of the All-merciful, to him We assign a Satan for comrade; 36 And verily they hinder them from the way, whilst they deem that they are rightly guided. 37 To the extent that when the disbeliever will be brought to Us, he will say to his devil, “Alas – if only there was the distance* of east and west, between you and me!” – so what an evil companion** he is! (* Had I not listened to you. **They will be bound together in chains.) 38 And never will it benefit you that Day, when you have wronged, that you are [all] sharing in the punishment. 39 Can you, (O Prophet), then make the deaf hear, or direct to the Right Way the blind or one lost in manifest error? 40 But if We should take you away, still We shall inflict retribution on them; 41 or make you see the end that We had promised them, for We have full power over them. 42 So, hold fast to the Book that has been revealed to you, you are surely on the right path, 43 And most surely it is a reminder for you and your people, and you shall soon be questioned. 44 Ask those of Our messengers whom We sent before you, "Did We ever appoint gods to be worshipped besides the Beneficent One?" 45
