But as for anyone who chooses to remain blind to the remembrance of the Most Gracious, to him We assign an [enduring] evil impulse, to become his other self: 36 and these satans hinder them from the Right Path, while he still reckons himself to be rightly-guided. 37 And when he comes before Us, he shall say: 'Would that there had been between me and you, the distance of the two Easts' Evil is the companion. 38 It shall not profit you today, since you did evil, that you are partners in the chastisement. 39 Canst thou then make the deaf to hear, or give direction to the blind or to such as (wander) in manifest error? 40 But if We should take you away, still We shall inflict retribution on them; 41 Rather We will certainly show you that which We have promised them; for surely We are the possessors of full power over them. 42 So hold thou fast to the Revelation sent down to thee; verily thou art on a Straight Way. 43 The Quran is a reminder to you and to your people and you will soon be questioned about it. 44 Ask Our Messengers whom We sent before you if We have ever made gods, other than the Merciful, to be worshipped. 45
