And whosoever turns away (blinds himself) from the remembrance of the Most Beneficent (Allah) (i.e. this Quran and worship of Allah), We appoint for him Shaitan (Satan - devil) to be a Qarin (an intimate companion) to him. 36 and they bar them from the way, and they think they are guided, 37 Until when he comes to Us, he says: O would that between me and you there were the distance of the East and the West; so evil is the associate! 38 When ye have done wrong, it will avail you nothing, that Day, that ye shall be partners in Punishment! 39 CANST THOU, perchance, [O Muhammad,] make the deaf hear, or show the right way to the blind or to such as are obviously lost in error? 40 But if We should take you away, still We shall inflict retribution on them; 41 Rather We will certainly show you that which We have promised them; for surely We are the possessors of full power over them. 42 So, hold fast to the Book that has been revealed to you, you are surely on the right path, 43 and, verily, this [revelation] shall indeed become [a source of] eminence for thee and thy people: but in time you all will be called to account [for what you have done with it]. 44 And ask those of Our apostles whom We sent before you: Did We ever appoint gods to be worshipped besides the Beneficent Allah? 45
