We shall make satan the companion of whoever ignores the remembrance of the Beneficent God. 36 whereupon, behold, these [evil impulses] bar all such from the path [of truth,] making them think that they are guided aright! 37 At length, when (such a one) comes to Us, he says (to his evil companion): "Would that between me and thee were the distance of East and West!" Ah! evil is the companion (indeed)! 38 And since you were unjust, it will not profit you this day that you are sharers in the chastisement. 39 Then will you make the deaf hear, [O Muhammad], or guide the blind or he who is in clear error? 40 And whether [or not] We take you away [in death], indeed, We will take retribution upon them. 41 Or We shall show thee that (accomplished) which We have promised them: for verily We shall prevail over them. 42 So hold thou fast to the Revelation sent down to thee; verily thou art on a Straight Way. 43 and, verily, this [revelation] shall indeed become [a source of] eminence for thee and thy people: but in time you all will be called to account [for what you have done with it]. 44 Ask those of Our Messengers We sent before thee: Have We appointed, apart from the All-merciful, gods to be served? 45
